On 1 May 2023, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, hosted a welcoming dinner in honour of H.E. Mr. Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai during his visit to Thailand as guest of Bangkok Metropolitan between 29 April - 2 May 2023 at Shangri-la Hotel, Bangkok. Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and executives of Thai companies with significant investments in Shanghai also presented at the welcoming dinner.

Both sides discussed how to further enhance trade, investment, and financial cooperation between Thailand and Shanghai. They also exchanged views and best practices on poverty alleviation, development of digitalization of city services and how to attract and promote talents in advanced technology.

This was Mr. Gong’s first visit to Thailand after his assumption to the office of Mayor of Shanghai in 2020 and also first overseas visit after the COVID-19 pandamic. The visit was aimed at strengthening economic coooperation with Bangkok, which is a friendship city with Shanghai, as well as Thailand in general.
