On 25 March 2022 H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs (VFM) of Thailand, met with Ms. Amy Pope, Deputy Director General (DDG) for Management and Reform of International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
The two sides exchanged views on the current trend of migration in the region and all over the world that were affected by various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict, and economic recession. H.E. Mr. Isarabhakdi expressed appreciation to IOM for long-standing support for the Thai Government in the provision of assistance to various groups of vulnerable migrants starting from displaced persons during the Indo-China War period to victims of trafficking in persons and migrant workers nowadays.
Ms. Pope shared information regarding IOM budget reform and expressed appreciation to Thailand for its active role in promoting the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), especially as a Champion Country on “access to health services for migrants” and “alternatives to immigration detention for migrant children”. The two sides also exchanged views on the upcoming International Migration Review Forum which will be held in New York in May this year.
