On 16 December 2024, Mr. Paisan Ruapanichkit, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, participated in the commemoration of the International Migrants Day, which is on 18 December of every year, and the launching of the Asia-Pacific Migration Report 2024, co-organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Network on Migration for Asia and the Pacific, at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) in Bangkok.
In his remarks, the Deputy Permanent Secretary underlined the important contributions of migrants to social and economic development of many countries in Asia and the Pacific. He also reaffirmed the region’s commitment to promoting safe, orderly and regular migration, and providing protection to vulnerable migrants, as shown by the collaboration in ASEAN and other regional frameworks, including the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime. In addition, he reiterated Thailand’s readiness to (1) promote good migration management through the whole of government and whole of society approaches, (2) share experiences with other countries as a Champion Country in some key objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), and (3) host the GCM Regional Review for Asia and the Pacific in February 2025 in Bangkok.
