Advisor to the Foreign Minister participates in the International Economic Forum - Latin America and the Caribbean 2026 in Panama City

On 28 - 29 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Karn Karuhadej, Economic Advisor to the Foreign Minister, led the Thai delegation to attend the International Economic Forum - Latin America and the Caribbean 2026 in Panama City, the Republic of Panama. Also in attendance were Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Panama, and Ms. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs.
 
The Forum was jointly organized by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and the Republic of Panama, serving as a platform for leaders, policymakers, and leading private-sector representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean to exchange views and discuss challenges and opportunities for economic cooperation in the region. The Forum featured policy addresses by leaders from seven countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, presenting key policy directions and approaches to advancing cooperation amid global economic and political volatility.
 
The Economic Advisor held discussions with representatives from key organizations, including CAF, ProPanama, Cámara Fintech de Panamá, and the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor (CMAR). He also participated in a closed-door session entitled “Strengthening Economic Cooperation between Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean” to exchange views and build networks with public- and private-sector representatives in the region, as well as explore the potential of Latin America as a large emerging market with significant opportunities for Thai businesses.
 
Later on 30 January 2026, the Thai delegation also met with H.E. Mr. Carlos Arturo Hoyos, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Panama, to exchange views on key areas of cooperation and opportunities to expand cooperation in fields with strong potential. The Thai side invited senior representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama to visit Thailand to attend the Second Thailand - Panama Political Consultations that Thailand will host and invited the Panamanian side to participate in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, which Thailand will host in Bangkok in October 2026.
 
The Thai delegation also observed operations at the Panama Canal. The Panamanian side invited countries to consider acceding to the Protocol to the Treaty Concerning the Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal, which constitutes one of the world’s most important global logistics routes.
