On 15 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand.

The Foreign Minister clarified Thailand’s position on the border situation between Thailand and Cambodia. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to resolving the matter in a sustainable manner, which requires sincerity and genuine commitment from Cambodia, while noting critically that the highest priority is placed on the safety of the people.

Both sides discussed preparations for the Foreign Minister’s upcoming visit to Japan, during which the Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, as well as representatives from the Japanese private sector and academia. They also exchanged views on activities commemorating the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Japan diplomatic relations in 2027, along with future plans for high-level visits between the two countries.
