On 20 September 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, held a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR.

The two Foreign Ministers exchanged condolences and sympathy for the recent floods affecting both countries. They underscored the importance of closer cooperation at the bilateral level and the full utilisation of various Mekong cooperation frameworks to enhance their capacities in mitigating the impacts of future disasters and sustainably managing shared water resources.

As neighbouring countries of Myanmar, they also discussed ways forward to support the work of ASEAN in bringing peace and stability back to Myanmar.
