H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign affairs, is scheduled to attend the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings on 24-27 July 2024 in Vientiane, the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Foreign Ministers and representatives from 30 countries and organisationsare expected to participate in this important annual gathering.

On this occasion, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers will discuss progress on ASEAN cooperation under the theme of Lao PDR’s chairmanship, “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” and prepare for the upcoming 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in October 2024, also held in Vientiane. The Foreign Ministers of ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Dialogue Partners, namely the USA, Russia, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom and European Union, will also exchange views, through the frameworks of ASEAN Plus One, ASEAN Plus Three (APT), East Asia Summit (EAS), and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), on important regional developments, including the situation in Myanmar.

The Foreign Minister will attend a total of 18 ministerial meetings aimed at advancing cooperation under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific(AOIP) to address common challenges such as climate change, maritime security and sustainable development. He will also reaffirm ASEAN centrality and solidarity amidst the current geopolitical context.

As the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Relations for 2021-2024, the Foreign Minister will also co-chair the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Japan with Her Excellency Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and handover the coordinatorship to Singapore. Thailand will assume the coordinatorship for ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations from Vietnam for the next three years (2024-2027). Furthermore, the Foreign Minister will take this opportunity to engage in bilateral talks with key partners to foster cooperation in the areas of mutual interest.
