Minister of Foreign Affairs joins the Prime Minister in attending the ASEAN - New Zealand Commemorative Summit

On 28 October 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, in attending the ASEAN - New Zealand Commemorative Summit on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
 
The meeting agreed to elevate ASEAN - New Zealand relations from a Strategic Partnership (SP) to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN- New Zealand dialogue partnership. The meeting also agreed to establish the ASEAN - New Zealand Vision Fund and to Biennial Summit. Furthermore, the meeting discussed future directions for cooperation, encompassing political and security, economic, socio-cultural, and environmental dimensions, as well as exchanged views on important regional and international issues.
 
The Prime Minister welcomed the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to work with New Zealand in promoting peace and security in the region, particularly through maritime cooperation, combating transnational crime, online scams, disaster management, and health security. Thailand also reaffirmed its support for the multilateral trading system and its commitment to maximizing the benefits of existing free trade agreements, such as the ASEAN - Australia - New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
 
Following the meeting, New Zealand also hosted a Gala Lunch to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN - New Zealand Dialogue Relations. ASEAN and New Zealand established dialogue relations in 1975, making it ASEAN’s second oldest Dialogue Partner.
