On 6 June 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore. Also attending were the Ministers from IPEF Partner Countries, namely Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry of Singapore, and The Honorable Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce of the United States.
The Foreign Minister joined other IPEF Ministers in signing three landmark IPEF Agreements, namely the Agreement on Clean Economy, Agreement on Fair Economy, and Agreement on IPEF for Prosperity. The three Agreements will enhance cooperation among IPEF Partners towards achieving net zero emissions, enhancing transparency and good governance, and establishing the Ministerial mechanism to ensure driving forward the overall IPEF cooperation in a cohesive and efficient manner.
During the Meeting, IPEF Partners discussed on the progress in each Pillar and next steps forward, including the establishment of relevant mechanism in implementing Pillar II Supply Chain Agreement, which was signed last November and Thailand ratified in May 2024. For the Clean Economy Pillar, IPEF Partners deliberated on the Cooperative Work Programmes related to energy and environmental coopeation in delivering tangible outcomes. As for the Fair Economy Pillar, IPEF Partners agreed upon the capacity building programme to assist Partners in combatting corruption and promoting tax transparency more efficiently.
On this occasion, the Foreign Minister welcomed the significant progress made, particularly the signing of the three IPEF Agreements and informed the Meeting of Thailand’s undertaking under IPEF, including the recent ratification of the Supply Chain Agreement, the participation in the Cooperative Work Programmes on hydrogen, carbon market, and just transition, as well as the cooperation in capacity building for anti-corruption and tax transparency. The Foreign Minister also reiterated the importance of leveraging engagement with the private sector and the innovative financial solutions in driving IPEF forward. He then emphasized on turning IPEF vision and common goals into action for tangible benefits that will enhance prosperity and advance sustainable economic growth in the region.
