During 20-24 February 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with Mrs. Pornpimol Kanchanalak, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Ministerial Forum for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific in Paris, France, during which Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs held a corridor meeting on the sidelines with H.E. Mr. Jeppe Kofod, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark.

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in bilateral meetings with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of several countries as well as executives of international organizations as follows:

- Senator the Honourable Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia: Both sides discussed activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Australia. Senator Payne reiterated Australia’s support for Thailand as host of APEC this year. The situation in Myanmar was also discussed.    

- The Honourable Nanaia Mahuta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand: Both sides discussed bilateral, sub-regional and regional issues, especially within the ASEAN and ACMECS frameworks and the strengthening of the 65-year bilateral relations as well as the promotion of cooperation for the recovery of both countries and the region from COVID-19 by focusing on the fields that are in line with Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model. Other topics of discussion included the 30-year New Zealand Economic Plan, especially in the fields of agrotechnology, food innovation, renewable energy, public health, education and sustainable tourism. Both sides also exchanged views regarding development in the region, especially the situation in Myanmar.  

- Mr. Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Commission on the European Green Deal: The Thai side reiterated Thailand’s commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Paris Agreement. In this regard, Thailand has set the goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emission by 2065. Mr. Timmermans reaffirmed that the EU places much importance on environment issues and was ready to cooperate with Thailand for the green transition. Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar and the tension along the Russian-Ukraine border.

- Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organization For Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD): At the OECD Headquarters in Paris, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs encouraged further cooperation with the OECD especially in shaping the BCG Economy Model both at the bilateral level and in the ASEAN framework as well as on the occasion that Thailand holds the host of APEC this year. Both sides also discussed ways to adjust the Country Programme (CP) between Thailand and the OECD in the second phase to fit the strategy to enhance the development of the country which would enable Thailand to adopt rules and regulations in accordance with the OECD standards.

- Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO): Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated Mrs. Azoulay for her re-election as Director-General of the UNESCO for the second term. Both sides also discussed Thailand's role in the UNESCO framework, such as Thailand’s membership in the Executive Board and the World Heritage Committee. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs invited Mrs. Azoulay to visit Thailand to attend the 2th Asia-Pacific Regional Education Ministerial Conference (APREMC-II), which Thailand will host in June 2022.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs took part in the Bali Process Steering Group meeting, together with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand at the Embassy of Indonesia in Paris, which is a regional consultative forum on illegal immigration, human smuggling, human trafficking and transnational crime.

During his official visit to France, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs received a briefing from the Ambassador of Thailand to France and Embassy staff at the Royal Thai Embassy in Paris on the scope and mission of the Royal Thai Embassy as well as France’s policies under President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the French presidential election in April this year.
