On 6 August 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired with the Honourable Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, in the 6th Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas (JDS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On this occasion, both sides discussed ways to strengthen Thailand - Malaysia bilateral relations, as well as follow up the implementation of the outcomes of the 5th JDS in Bangkok and expedite pending cooperation areas under the JDS in order to promote connectivity between special economic zones and tourism between the two countries, aa well as discussed future infrastructure development projects around border areas to enhance economic cooperation and people interactions. In addition, both sides also discussed cooperation in human resource development and labour capability/capacity building through exchanges and professional skill trainings, which respond to challenges and needs of the current labour market, especially in digital economy, smart entrepreneur and student exchanges. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues.

The meeting highlights both governments’ joint commitment to enhance the relations in all levels, both bilaterally and multilaterally, for the benefits and prosperity of the peoples and the countries.
