On 2 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary General of BIMSTEC, at the sideline of 6^th BIMSTEC Summit and related meetings.

On this occasion, the Secretary General conveyed his heartfelt condolences for the loss of life caused by the earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on 28 March 2025. He also commended the Government of Thailand for successfully hosting the Summit despite the challenges.

The Thai Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s strong commitment to advancing the shared regional agenda, with the aim of further strengthening cooperation and fostering solidarity among BIMSTEC Member States.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance economic opportunities and revitalize BIMSTEC at the policy level, focusing on three key areas: 1) Strengthening connectivity across land, sea, and air; 2) Enhancing cooperation between BIMSTEC and ASEAN; and 3) Optimizing the role of BIMSTEC Centres of Excellence.
