Minister of Foreign Affairs holds a bilateral discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR

On 14 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral discussion with H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Anning, Yunnan Province, China.

The two sides welcomed positive momentum of bilateral relations and regular high level meetings. They discussed enhancing cooperation on clean energy, human resource development, border trade and development, and connectivity, especially the official inauguration of the 5th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge in Bueng Kan Province in December.

On the Thailand - Cambodia border situation, the Thai Foreign Minister extended his condolences over the death of a Lao civilian in Ubon Ratchathani Province following the attacks by Cambodia military into civilian targets. He appreciated Lao PDR’s support for Thailand and Cambodia to peacefully resolve the current situation through bilateral consultations.

He gave update about the positive outcome of the Extraordinary General Boundary Committee (GBC) Meeting on 7 August 2025, and Thailand’s commitment to its implementation, which was welcomed by his Lao counterpart. Foreign Minister Maris also stressed the importance of advancing demining along the Thailand - Cambodia border to ensure safety and reduce tension.
