On July 25 2024, H.E. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 57th ASEAN Foreign Minsters’ Meeting (AMM) at National Convention Centre, Vientiane, in both the plenary and retreat sessions, to follow up and advance progress on important issues pertaining to ASEAN Community building efforts and to prepare for 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits at the end of this year. ASEAN Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on relations between ASEAN and external partners/parties, as well as on regional and international issues, incl. situation in the Middle East, Myanmar and the Korean Peninsula.

At the AMM, Thailand led on the issue of promoting economic resilience as the Chair of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework (DEFA) Negotiating Committee and ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation, and reiterated Thailand’s readiness to co-organize the AOIP Forum: Towards UN SDGs 2030 with the Lao PDR in August this year in Vientiane. On this occasion, the Minister announced Thailand’s pledge to contribute an additional financial support of 250,000 USD to the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) to strengthen ASEAN’s collective efforts to address the situation in Myanmar through the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
