On 1 October 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, co-chaired a roundtable meeting with Ms. Monika Hencsey, Director-General, Green Diplomacy and Multilateralism, Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV), European Commission. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Ms. Luisa Ragher, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand, and her delegation, as well as representatives of relevant Thai agencies.

The Director-General of the Department of European Affairs highlighted Thailand’s progress in strengthening its legal framework and fostering cooperation between the public and private sectors to elevate Thai business standards to be in line with the European Union’s environmental regulations, particularly the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which underscores Thailand’s commitment to pursuing membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in the future.

The EU’s Director-General for Green Diplomacy and Multilateralism noted that the main objectives of her visit were to further strengthen cooperation with Thailand and to exchange views on economic and environmental issues with the Thai agencies as well as to provide updates on the PPWR. She commended Thailand’s efforts in relation to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and cooperation on circular economy.
