On 10 February 2023, Mrs. Carola van Rijnsoever, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands met with Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in the course of her visit to Thailand during 8 – 10 February 2023. H.E. Mr. Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Thailand, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Deputy Director-General of Department of the European Affairs, and Ms. Pratana Disyatat, Director of Western Europe Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended.

Both sides discussed bilateral issues to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, water management, environment, art and culture, food and agricultural. On this occasion, the Thai side reaffirmed the invitation of the Prime Minister to his Dutch counterpart to pay an official visit to Thailand. At the same time, the Dutch side expressed hope that Thailand will participate in a high level UN 2023 Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by the Netherlands and Tajikistan in March 2023, New York. The said conference aims to tackle water resource management in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Both sides also exchanged views on global and regional issues concerning the situation in Ukraine and Myanmar, as well as the ASEAN – EU relations. In addition, the Thai side took this opportunity to request for the Netherlands’ support for Thailand’s candidature to host a Specialised Expo in 2028 in Phuket (Expo 2028 Phuket, Thailand) and the expeditious resumption of the Free trade Agreement (FTA) talks between Thailand and the EU.
 
The diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Netherlands date back for over 400 years. Last year, the 2nd Thailand – the Netherlands Political Consultations were convened in The Hague in November 2022. One month later, the Thai and the Dutch Prime Ministers held a bilateral meeting in Brussels on the sidelines of the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in mid December 2022.
