On 10 February 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, welcomed H.E. Mr. Garba Sani, Ambassador of the Republic of Niger to Thailand, with residence in Beijing, during his visit to Thailand to present the Letters of Credence to Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua.
 
The Deputy Permanent Secretary congratulated and informed the Ambassador of the Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI) relaunched by the Royal Thai Government to further enhance cooperation in all dimensions with Africa, including Niger. She also expressed the Ministry's readiness to support his mission in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Thailand including trade, investment, development, multilateral cooperation, and human resource development. The Deputy Permanent Secretary also encouraged the Nigerien side to take advantage of annual scholarships and international training courses offered by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) that may suit the needs of Niger. In addition, the Thai side urged the Nigerien side to consider purchasing more Thai rice to balance the bilateral trade which is currently in favour of Niger. She also encouraged exchanges of trade delegations from both sides to participatein trade exhibitions, such as THAIFEX, as well as supporting Thailand’s candidatures in the international organizations.
 
The Ambassador expressed his appreciation to the Deputy Permanent Secretary and the Ministry for the warm welcome. He identified several sectors where Niger is keen for cooperation, namely agriculture, irrigation, electricity and infrastructure development, of which Thiland has expertise in. The Nigerien side mentioned the visit of the Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Niger with residence in Abuja, Nigeria, on 15 January 2026 to present the Letters of Credence to the President of Niger. Both sides also expressed satisfaction with this development in the bilateral relations.
