On 17 October 2025, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the 4th Meeting of Political Consultations between Thailand and Brazil with H.E. Ambassador Susan Kleebank, Secretary for Asia and the Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, at the Ministry. Also in attendance were Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, and Mr. Matias A.S. Vilhena, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Brazil in Thailand.

Both sides engaged in discussions to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, including political and security cooperation, trade and investment, agriculture, renewable energy, and people-to-people relations. They also explored ways to revitalize technical cooperation, both bilaterally and trilaterally, as well as collaboration in international fora, particularly in environmental and sustainable development. They also exchanged views on domestic and regional developments including the Thailand - Cambodia situation. Both sides agreed to promote more high-level exchanges and visits, expedite the signing of MoU on defence cooperation, and foster police cooperation to address transnational crime including online scams. With shared determination to further expand bilateral trade and investment, they agreed to encourage greater exchange of trade delegations, enhance participation in trade fairs, and promote business networking between private sectors. The Thai side also emphasized the potential of its creative industries, including Muay Thai, Thai films, and series especially Boys’ Love (BL) and Girls’ Love (GL) genres which are gaining popularity in Brazil.

Thailand and Brazil have enjoyed cordial and friendly relations over the past 66 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1959. Brazil is Thailand’s top trading partner in the Latin America and Caribbean region. In 2024, the total trade volume between the two countries amounted to 6.49 billion USD, an increase of 3.69 per cent from the previous year.
