On 20 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone discussion with H.E. Mr. Tom Berendsen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Both sides exchanged congratulations on the assumption of their new positions, with the Dutch Foreign Minister having taken up his post in late February 2026. They discussed ways to promote bilateral relations and cooperation in digital technology, underscoring that the Netherlands is Thailand’s largest investor among European Union Member States. They also exchanged views on key global developments, including the situation in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as its implications for supply chains and energy transport routes. Both sides emphasised the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to upholding a rules-based international order grounded in international law.
