Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs exchanged views with Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand on the Covid-19 management and regional development. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation under ACMECS and APEC. New Zealand also appreciates Thailand’s and ASEAN roles in resolving situation in Myanmar.

On 12 May 2021, H.E. Mrs. Nanaia Mahuta, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, had an introductory call on H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs via video-conference. Both sides discussed ways to promote bilateral cooperation, including education. They also exchanged views on ways to effectively handle the COVID-19 pandemic and situations in the region and Myanmar, in which New Zealand appreciates and supports Thailand’s and ASEAN’s roles, especially the 5-Points Consensus, which would help pave the way for peaceful resolution in Myanmar.

On this occasion, both sides also discussed regional cooperation whereby Thailand supports New Zealand’s intention to become Development Partner of ACMECS while New Zealand notes and supports Thailand’s plan to promote Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) during its hosting of APEC in 2022.
