On 14 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Panpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, discussed with H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, Lao Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, during the latter’s visit to Thailand. Also present were H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, General Songwit Noonpackdee, Chief of Defence Forces and H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

Both sides exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar and ASEAN’s role to help support peace and stability in Myanmar. The Thai side expressed its readiness to fully support the works of the Special Envoy and Lao PDR as the ASEAN Chair this year. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also briefed the Special Envoy about Thailand's humanitarian initiative to scale up assistance to the Myanmar people along the Thai-Myanmar Border, which will be part of ASEAN's collective efforts on Myanmar.
