On 6 - 7 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, in welcoming and meeting with H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, during the latter’s Official Visit to Thailand.

On 6 August 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister joined in the meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of Myanmar at Government House. The two leaders agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations across all dimensions, enhance cooperation in areas of mutual benefit for the people of both countries, and underscored the importance of building mutual trust, while promoting regular exchanges of high-level visits.

Both sides agreed to work together to transform the Thailand - Myanmar border into a border of peace and development, strengthen efforts to combat transnational crime, particularly drug trafficking and online scams, and address transboundary environmental challenges, including transboundary haze and river contamination. They agreed to establish a Joint Working Group on Water Quality Management in Boundary and Transboundary Rivers between Thailand and Myanmar to address these issues based on scientific approaches and cooperation, with the first meeting to be convened at the earliest opportunity. On the economic front, both sides will cooperate to promote and facilitate trade and investment and reduce trade barriers. Thailand will host the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting within this year to advance efforts towards achieving the bilateral trade target of USD 12 billion. The two countries will also promote cooperation in finance and energy and establish a Joint Working Group on Enhancing Connectivity to coordinate connectivity efforts as a whole, leveraging the strategic locations of Thailand and Myanmar as a bridge connecting ASEAN with China and South Asia. Thailand will also continue to support Myanmar’s development in areas aligned with Myanmar’s priorities, including agriculture, public health, sustainable development, and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The two leaders held frank discussions on ASEAN. The Myanmar side expressed appreciation for Thailand’s constructive role in building bridges between Myanmar and ASEAN and in supporting continued positive developments. The Thai side welcomed Myanmar’s reaffirmation of its commitment to advancing the peace process towards tangible outcomes, while the Myanmar side expressed appreciation for Thailand’s support in this regard.

The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of the following cooperation documents:
1. A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and the Myanmar Space Agency.
2. A Memorandum of Understanding on Labor Cooperation and the Agreement on Employment of Workers.
3. The Terms of Reference of the Joint Working Group on Water Quality Management in Boundary and Transboundary Rivers between Thailand and Myanmar.

In addition, the two leaders jointly presided over the opening ceremony of the Thailand - Myanmar Business Forum 2026, attended by more than 500 leading business representatives from Thailand and Myanmar, reflecting the close economic partnership between the two countries.

On 7 August 2026, the President of Myanmar also met with H.E. Mr. Mongkol Surasatcha, Acting President of the National Assembly and President of the Senate, at Parliament to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments.
