On 17 December 2023, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation on 14 – 18 December 2023 in Tokyo.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to enhancing ASEAN solidarity, appreciated the Secretary-General’s support for Thailand as the ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation and the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Relations. In addition, both sides discussed several key issues, including promoting digital economy, sustainability agenda, ASEAN centrality, situation in Myanmar, and Thailand’s initiative to scale up humanitarian assistance along the Thai-Myanmar border which will compliment ASEAN’s effort in implementing the Five-Point Consensus (5PC).
