On 21 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended as Guest of Honour and delivered opening remarks at the reception celebrating Europe Day 2026, hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs underscored that Thailand and the European Union share a common aspiration for peace, security, prosperity, and progress. He noted that Thailand - EU relations are gaining strong momentum and are founded on mutual trust, shared values, and common goals of upholding the rules-based international order and strengthening multilateral cooperation. He also stressed the need for both sides to translate the current momentum into tangible outcomes in key areas of cooperation, including the conclusion of Thailand - EU FTA negotiations, green and digital transition, cybersecurity, and cooperation to combat online scams.
Europe Day is celebrated annually on 9 May to commemorate the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundation for European integration and the establishment of the European Union. In 2026, Europe Day also marked the 40th anniversary of the first official Europe Day celebrations, as well as the public use of the EU flag and anthem. The occasion reflected the evolving partnership between Thailand and the European Union, which continues to deepen across all dimensions.
