On 5 August 2024, the Department of Information, MFA, hosted a study visit entitled ‘The Charm of Isaan: Transforming Local Wisdom into Creative Economy’, for members of the diplomatic corps and foreign media in Thailand, led by Mr. Panidone Pachimsawat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, during 5-6 August 2024. The aim of the visit is to promote the pivotal role of the Thai Monarchy in the region’s development to elevate the quality of life of the people, as well as a better understanding of Thailand’s Isaan region and its potential to foster creative economy.
On the first day, the delegation visited the Phu Thai community at Ban None Hom village, representing one of the many diverse cultures of the region, where Mr. Chayut Wongwanit, Vice Governor of Sakon Nakhon, and the Phu Thai Community warmly welcomed the group in a Bai Sri Su Khwan blessing ceremony. The members of the delegation also enjoyed a traditional Phu Thai dance and ancient Muaythai performances.
The study visit continued on to the Royally-initiated Nam Pheung – Nam Kam River Basin Development Project. The water resources development project was planned and constructed under the vision of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and His Majesty the King, who took note of prevalent water-related problems in Isaan region. Sakon Nakhon province is currently the province with the highest number of water-related royal projects advancing the management of water resources in support of the local population.
In the afternoon, the delegation paid a visit to the Puparn Royal Development Study Centre. Mr. Sorrarat Pawarinyanont, Director of the Centre, welcomed the group and guided them through an art exhibition depicting the history of the Centre. The group also toured the Centre and were briefed on three of its main missions; rice development, animal husbandry and public health promotion.
