On 10 September 2024, the Department of International Organizations organized a seminar entitled “Seven Decades of Thailand in UN Peacekeeping Operations: Lessons Learned and Future Directions” at JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok.
On this occasion, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, highlighted the seminar’s objectives to raise awareness of Thailand’s role and contributions in United Nations peacekeeping operations, review lessons learned and assess current peacekeeping challenges in the changing global context. The seminar’s key outcomes and recommendations would provide inputs for Thailand’s policy in peacekeeping operations in the future.
The seminar comprised two sessions: the first session was organized under the theme “Lessons Learned and Future Directions for Thailand’s Participation in Peacekeeping Operations,” and the second session was on “Experiences from Participating in Peacekeeping Missions.” The panelists presented perspectives on changes in the global context affecting peacekeeping operations and exchanged views on Thailand’s operational direction, with a focus on increasing the number and roles of female peacekeepers, promoting sustainable development, preparing personnel according to specified criteria, and promoting cooperation with regional and international organizations, as well as enhancing coordination among relevant Thai agencies.
