Director-General of the International Organizations Department meets with the Director-General for Global Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan

On 30 September 2026, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, met with Mr. Masatoshi Sugiura, Director-General for Global Issues, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Thailand, to exchange views on international issues of mutual interest.

Both sides welcomed the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan in 2027 and exchanged views on (1) the reform of the United Nations and the United Nations Security Council to reflect the changing global context, (2) the importance of upholding the rules-based international order with the United Nations at the center, (3) Thailand - Japan cooperation in promoting Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and (4) the provision of humanitarian assistance for Myanmar displaced persons (MDPs) in Thailand. In this regard, the Director-General expressed appreciation to Japan for its support for the MDPs in Thailand through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and various international organizations.

Both sides also exchanged views on emerging security challenges, including climate change, energy security and artificial intelligence.
