On 9 October 2023, H.E. Mr. Lou Qinjian, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Jakkapong Sangmanee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry. H.E. Mrs. Pikulkaew Krairiksh, Chairwoman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also attended the meeting.

Both sides attached importance to strengthening the Thailand - China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the building of a Thailand - China community with a shared future for enhanced stability, prosperity and sustainability, as mandated by the leaders of both countries. Both sides agreed to enhance exchanges of high - level visits, as well as trade, investment, connectivity, and tourism cooperation. They also commended the long-standing parliamentary ties and friendship and agreed to continue promoting more exchanges between their respective legislative bodies, including at the Committee level. Furthermore, both sides emphasized the importance of sharing experiences on national development, in particular poverty alleviation, digital economy, as well as science, technology, and innovation development.

Chairman Lou is paying a visit to Thailand from 8 - 12 November 2023 as guest of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. This courtesy call is also a follow-up of the meeting between Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and H.E. Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, during the Prime Minister’s official visit to China between 16 - 19 October 2023.
