On 23 February 2024 in Almaty, H.E. Mr. Jakkapong Sangmanee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, together with H.E. Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Tourism and Sports, co-hosted the ‘Amazing Thailand: A Glimpse of the Land of Smiles’ Reception to promote Thai tourism in Kazakhstan. The Reception was attended by members of the diplomatic and consular corps, senior representatives of the government and private sectors in Almaty, as well as media.
 
During his Welcoming Remarks, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs invited the people of Kazakhstan to visit Thailand, and noted the importance of tourism, not only as a key element of people-to-people relations, but as a driver of economic momentum between Thailand and Kazakhstan. He was pleased that Thailand’s visa exemption scheme currently in place has resulted in a large increase in tourist numbers from Kazakhstan, and stated that the two sides are working towards finalising the draft agreement on visa exemption. This would also contribute towards an increase in the number of flights between the two countries.
 
The Minister of Tourism and Sports emphasised Thailand’s commitment to welcome visitors from Kazakhstan. She also brought special performances from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, namely Songkran and Muaythai, to present at this Reception.
