On 5 March 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined the bilateral meeting between H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister, and The Honourable Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia at the Special Summit to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations in Melbourne, Australia. This meeting is the second bilateral meeting between the two Prime Ministers following the first encounter at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2023 in San Francisco, the United States.
On this occasion, the Prime Ministers discussed the overview of Thailand-Australia relations, which is defined as unique and constructive. They also discussed various areas of cooperation, following up from the bilateral discussion with H.E. General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd),the Governor-General of Australia and his spouse during their Official Visit to Thailand on 13-17 February 2024. The comprehensive and diverse cooperation Thailand and Australia share as Strategic Partners include economic cooperation and the exchange of trade and investment. In this regard, the Prime Minister welcomed the recently launched "Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040," which corresponds to the Royal Thai Government’s Proactive Economic Diplomacy. This reflects the opportunities for the enhancement of mutual trade and investment, as well as the exchange of know-how in targeted sectors, namely electric vehicles, precision agriculture, smart industries, and the opportunity in Thailand’s Landbridge Project.
The two sides also discussed defence and security cooperation, including the exchange of personnel and knowledge, along with combating human trafficking. In addition, the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Australia deliberated on people-to-people relations, education, tourism and labour mobility in the agricultural sector.
