Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs meets with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Thailand

On March 11, 2026, Ms. Sirilak Niyom, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz Mohammed K. A. Al-Sada, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Thailand. The Deputy Permanent Secretary extended her congratulations to the Ambassador on his recent appointment. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the close and strong relationship between Thailand and Qatar at all levels, noting the 45th anniversary of this relationship in 2025. The Deputy Permanent Secretary expressed hope for the swift signing of a MoU on establishing a political consultation framework between the two countries, with Thailand prepared to host the inaugural meeting to further enhance bilateral relations across all sectors.

Both sides exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and agreed to support all involved parties in pursuing diplomatic negotiations to peacefully resolve the conflict and cease attacks on civilian areas in the region. They also discussed the effects of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and cooperation between Thailand’s PTT and QatarEnergy in promoting mutual energy security.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary expressed her appreciation to the Qatari government for taking care of Thai citizens residing in Qatar, as well as for facilitating the safe return of Thai citizens stranded in Qatar to Thailand.
