The Thai Foreign Ministry hosted the First Deputy Director-General-Level Meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, assessing the implementation of the 3rd Joint Action Plan on Thailand - China Strategic Cooperation (2017 - 2021) in 20 areas of cooperation and strengthening Thailand - China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
On 29 April 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand hosted the First Deputy Director-General-Level Meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China via teleconference. Mandated by the Fourth Thailand-China Strategic Dialogue in July 2019 in Beijing, the meeting was co-chaired by Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Deputy Director General of the Department of East Asian Affairs, and Mrs. Shen Minjuan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The Meeting assessed the implementation of the 3rd Joint Action Plan on Thailand - China Strategic Cooperation (2017 - 2021) in 20 areas of cooperation such as political, security and defense cooperation, economic cooperation, connectivity and infrastructure, energy and environmental cooperation, science, technology and innovation cooperation, cultural and tourism cooperation, and multilateral cooperation.
Both sides were satisfied with the progress in the implementation the 3rd Joint Action Plan over the past 4 years, which has contributed to the strengthening of Thailand - China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. They discussed the implementation of the Joint Action Plan in the remaining period of 2021 such as the convening of the 7th Joint Committee on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation and the 23rd Sino - Thai Joint Committee on the Scientific and Technical Cooperation, cooperation in securing COVID-19 vaccines and facilitating the return of Thai students to continue their studies in China upon the improvement of the COVID-19 situation as well as the resumption of commercial flights by Thai airlines to China. Both sides also discussed the drafting of the 4th Joint Action Plan on Thailand - China Strategic Cooperation (2022 - 2026) with a view to finalising it within this year.
Furthermore, the Meeting discussed the preparation for the 5th Strategic Dialogue between Thailand - China to be co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Wu Jianghao, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, to be hosted by the Thai side at the end of May 2021.
