On 25 June 2024, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mrs. Betty Oyella Bigombe, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to Thailand, with residence in Kuala Lumpur, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the Ambassador’s visit to Thailand to present the Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, in particular, in trade and investment in potential sectors, including infrastructure, construction materials and agricultural machinery and exchange visits of business delegations between the two countries. The Thai side also reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen development cooperation with Uganda specifically in the areas of rice farming, fresh water fisheries and fish farming. In addition, they also shared experience on the preventive measures and provision of humanitarian assistance through National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to Ugandan nationals, who are lured by traffickers to work in illegal compounds in Thailand’s neighboring country.
