On 28 February 2025, H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador-Designate of Thailand to Denmark, together with diplomats and their spouses, visited the Roskilde Cathedral in the town of Roskilde. The Cathedral has served as a royal mausoleum of the Danish Royal family, and is where the Thai Royal Family who visited this Cathedral, namely His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V), His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (King Rama IX), and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, had their heights marked at the “Royal Column”, according to the Cathedral’s tradition. The Thai Royal Family is the only royal family outside of Europe which had their heights carved on the Column. This reflects a long standing and close relationship between the Royal Families of Thailand and Denmark, as well as the wisdom and forward thinking of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn who was among the first monarchs from Asia to travel to Europe having made 2 trips to Denmark.

In this occasion, Mr. Bjarne Hald, Head of the Parish, Roskilde Cathedral, and Ms. Sara Peuron-Berg, Head of Interpretation and Mediation, Roskilde Cathedral Cultural Heritage Foundation, provided the delegation with a guided tour, detailing the history of how the Cathedral was founded, the architectural style that developed over the years, as well as a closeup look of the Royal Column.

Roskilde Cathedral is one of the oldest Cathedrals in Denmark with a history dating back approximately 800 years. The Cathedral was selected as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in 1995 and will celebrate its 30th anniversary of its inscription this year.
