On 14 March 2025, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, chaired the first meeting of the 2025 Coordinating Committee on Issues Related to the United Nations, Other International Organizations and Foreign Organizations. In attendance were representatives from over 30 Thai government agencies.
The Committee was briefed on Thailand’s engagement in key meetings and activities during the High-Level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) held in September 2024 in New York, in which the Thai delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs. They also reviewed outcomes from the deliberations of the UNGA’s six main committees convened during September and December 2024, namely: (1) Disarmament and International Security (2) Economic and Financial (3) Social, Humanitarian and Cultural (4) Special Political and Decolonization (5) Administrative and Budgetary and (6) Legal Issues.
The Coordinating Committee, established by a Cabinet resolution in 2019, is chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and comprises government agencies involved with UN and other international organizations. The Committee coordinates Thailand’s positions on multilateral issues to ensure comprehensive, unified and stances aligned with national interests. They meet twice a year to follow-up on important UN developments and deliberate on Thailand's stance within the UN framework.
