On 8 January 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, signed the condolence book on the passing of the Honorable Jimmy Carter, Former President of the United States of America at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence, where they were welcomed by the Honorable Robert F. Godec, Ambassador of the U.S. to Thailand.
The Honorable Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the U.S. during 1977-1981. He was admired worldwide for his achievements and dedication both during and after his presidential term in promoting peace and human rights. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. President Carter visited Thailand twice to carry out humanitarian work in 2006, as part of the recovery efforts after the tsunami disaster, and in 2009 as part of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project under Habitat for Humanity that built homes for Thai families in Chiang Mai province.
President Jimmy Carter died on 29 December 2024 at the age of 100.
