On 8 November 2021, H.E. Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on the occasion of the Ambassador's assumption of duty. Both sides welcomed the close friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Thailand and China as well as mutual assistance extended to each other to help mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both sides agreed to promote regular exchanges of high-level visits and meetings, cooperation in public health and research and development of COVID-19 vaccines as well as cooperation in post-COVID-19 economic recovery. Both sides also concurred on the importance of expediting the convening of meetings under various bilateral economic mechanisms, promoting connectivity between the China-Laos railway and Thailand’s railway system to facilitate the transport of goods and cross-border travel, as well as to providing investment protection to nationals of each side and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.

On this occasion, the two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interests. They welcomed the close cooperation between Thailand and China under multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN-China and the United Nations as well as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). In this regard, the Chinese side also expressed support for Thailand's role as APEC Host in 2022.
