On 8 October 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra welcomed Year 6 students from Ivanhoe Primary School in Victoria, led by Mr. Nick King, Assistant Principal, together with teachers from the school. The delegation, comprised 82 people (including 74 students and 8 teachers), was received at Sala Thai Function Hall in the Royal Thai Embassy. The visit was part of the school’s annual Canberra excursion for 2026 and marked the 5th consecutive year that the school had brought students to the Embassy to learn about Thailand and Thai culture.

On this occasion, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, delivered welcoming remarks. The delegation then participated in activities introducing Thailand and its cultural heritage. These included presentation about various interesting aspects of Thailand, including the eight styles of Chud Thai or traditional Thai dress graciously bestowed by Her Majesty Late Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, important festivals and popular tourist destinations. Through various fun activities, students experienced Thai culture, including learning the basics of Thai language, such as Thai consonants, vowels, tone marks and numerals, practising basic Thai conversations and writing their own names in Thai. They also took part in Ramwong, a traditional Thai group dance. The visit concluded with Thai refreshments prepared by the Embassy.

This activity is part of the Embassy’s efforts to promote awareness and understanding of Thailand, foster mutual understanding between the Thai and Australian peoples, and provide young Australians with opportunities to explore Thai culture, thereby contributing to strengthening the friendship and lasting ties between Thailand and Australia.
