On 15 - 16 August 2024, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Saksee Phromyothi, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil, led a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thai private sector to visit the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the Latin Link 2024 Project. The initiative aims at creating awareness of trade and investment potentials between Thailand and Brazil, as well as establishing a networking of cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
During the visit, the Thai delegation attended a Networking Dinner hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Brasilia. Representatives from the State and the City of Rio de Janeiro, Thai company in Brazil and Brazilian companies were participating in the event. Both sides, including Thailand’s Indorama Ventures and Brazilian companies such as Embrare and Braskem, exchanged views and experiences in doing business in Brazil and Thailand.
The delegation also visited Braskem S.A. in the City of Duque de Caxias to be briefed of the company’s operation and the cooperation between Thailand's SCG Chemicals and Brazil's Braskem to establish a joint venture to build a bio-polyethylene plant in Thailand.
