On 27 September 2021 H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs had a bilateral meeting with The Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States during his visit to Washington, D.C. Both sides reaffirmed the long-lasting Thailand – US alliance and discussed ways to further strengthen the relations and cooperation between the two countries, both at the bilateral and regional levels.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed sincere thanks for the 1.5 million doses of vaccine assistance from the United States as well as the upcoming 1 million doses which will be delivered to Thailand. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also requested the US side’s assistance in expediting the delivery of Thailand’s vaccine purchase from the US vaccine producers. Both sides also discussed cooperation on strengthening of supply chain and production of vaccines for global health security.

The issue of climate change and the 26th Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) was also discussed. The key priorities for Thailand’s APEC Host Year 2022 will include the Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model which will complement the efforts to address climate change and sustainable development. In this connection, both sides agreed to working closely to ensure seamless transition between Thailand’s and the United States’ APEC Host Year in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

On this occasion, both sides exchanged views on important regional developments, including the situation in Myanmar, the significant roles of ASEAN, and the promotion of the Mekong Sub-regional cooperation.

Later on the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with Mr. Kurt Campbell, Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific of the National Security Council. Both sides discussed COVID-19 vaccine cooperation and regional developments.
