On 20 February 2023, Mr. Nathapol Khantahiran, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Ms. Cindy Termorshuizen, Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada had a bilateral meeting during the latter’s visit to Thailand. Also attended were Dr. Sarah Taylor, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand and Ms. Jaithai Upakarnitikaset, Deputy Director-General, Department of American and South Pacific Affairs.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance Thailand-Canada relations and cooperation, following up on the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister of Thailand and Prime Minister of Canada during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Bangkok in November 2022. Both sides discussed the priority areas of cooperation, in line with Thailand’s BCG Economy and sustainable development and Canada’s strengths and expertises, such as trade and investment, renewable energy, climate change response, and high technology industries. In addition, both sides exchanged views on important regional developments as well as Canada’s recently-released Indo-Pacific Strategy, which lays out Canada’s priorities in the region.
