Minister of Foreign Affairs has bilateral discussions with Switzerland, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, European Commission, Australia, and China during 57th AMM/PMC in Vientiane, Lao PDR

On 26 - 27 July 2024, H.E. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs,        had bilateral discussions with high-level government representatives of various countries, including State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand,                  High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, detail as follows:

(1) A corridor meeting on 26 July 2024 with H.E. Mr. Alexandre Fasel, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, where both sides appreciated progress of Thailand-Swiss relations and agreed to expand cooperation and mutual support in multilateral fora.

(2) A bilateral meeting on 26 July 2024 with the Right Honourable David Lammy, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, where both sides reiterated their will to utilize cooperation under the Strategic Partnership (SP) towards mutual benefits, including Thai-UK FTA negotiation to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

(3) A bilateral meeting on 27 July 2024 with the Right Honourable Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, to follow up on cooperation progress in various areas and the work plan to elevate Thailand-New Zealand relations to a Strategic Partnership by 2026 on the occasion of 70th Anniversary of the relations. On this occasion, both sides agreed to drive the positive momentum in Thailand-New Zealand relations, including by enhancing cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, especially in agriculture, education, and food security.

(4) A bilateral meeting on 27 July 2024 with Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission (HR/VP), where both sides discussed the Thai-EU FTA negotiations and ways to enhance regional cooperation.

(5) A bilateral meeting on 27 July 2024 with Senator the Honourable Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen ties as Strategic Partners and discuss ways to further promote cooperation between the two countries. On this occasion, both sides expressed their readiness to promote areas of cooperation where best practices could be shared, especially in agriculture and livestock development, food security and education.  The two ministers also discussed latest regional developments, including the situation in Myanmar.

(6) A bilateral meeting on 27 July 2024 with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, where both sides discussed on advancing excellent Thailand-China relations to combat transnational crimes, especially narcotics trafficking & transboundary haze pollution. They also looked forward to meet at 9th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) FM meeting in Chiang Mai province of Thailand in August 2024.

 

In addition, on 25 July 2024, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, also had a bilateral discussion with H.E. Chung Byung Won, Senior Official of the Republic of Korea (ROK), to strengthen Thailand - ROK relations and the role of Thailand as ASEAN-ROK coordinating country in 2024-2027. Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Korean Peninsula.
