On 26 June 2024, H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister, welcomed H.E. Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan, and spouse, during their official visit to Thailand between 25-28 June 2024.

Both sides welcomed the close bilateral ties at all levels with the special bond between the two Royal Families as a strong foundation. The visit commemorates the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and aims to enhance cooperation on potential areas of mutual interest. On trade and investment, both sides expressed commitment to expand trade volume and increase investment opportunities through the early expedition of the FTA between Thailand and Bhutan. Comprehensive discussions were made regarding investment prospects in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project (GMC), Bhutan's Special Administrative Zone. The Prime Minister of Bhutan also extended an invitation for the Prime Minister to visit Bhutan to explore trade and investment potentials.

On this occasion, both sides agreed to promote people-to-people connections through the promotion of tourism, especially as the Bhutanese people regards Thailand as their preferred travel destination for medical tourism and education. The Prime Minister of Bhutan also expressed his gratitude to the Royal Thai Government for providing assistance to Bhutan in capacity building and human resource development through scholarships, training programmes and various projects, such as the One Gewog One Product (OGOP) Development Project and the first-ever living donor renal transplant surgeries under the collaboration between Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) and Rajavithi Hospital.

In addition, the official visit culminated in the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), namely, (1) Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation and Exchange of Faculty Members between Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand and Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, and (2) Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism Between Department of Tourism, Royal Government of Bhutan, and Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Public Organization), Royal Thai Government.
