Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed ways to strengthen ties during a courtesy call by Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. The Foreign Secretary appreciated Thailand’s assistance in the repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals and COVID-19 vaccination of Bangladeshis residing in Thailand.

On 1 March 2022, H.E. Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai, upon his visit to Thailand to participated in the 2nd Bilateral Consultations between Thailand and Bangladesh. Both sides were pleased with the close relations between the two countries with 2022 marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation particularly in the area of trade and investment. In this connection, the Bangladeshi side emphasized the improvement of regional connectivity with countries in Southeast Asia. The Foreign Secretary also expressed appreciation for the Government of Thailand’s assistance in the repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals from Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as vaccination of Bangladeshis residing in Thailand.

On regional and multilateral cooperation, both sides agreed to continue mutual support, especially in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
