On 16 January 2023, His Excellency Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, attended the reception as Chief Guest, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Bangladesh. The reception was organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, at Siam Kempinski Hotel.

Thailand was among the first countries to recognize the statehood of Bangladesh on 16 February 1972, followed by the establishment of their diplomatic relations on 5 October 1972. On this occasion, both sides reiterated their close relations with two-way trade at 1.2 billion USD in 2021, making Bangladesh the 3rd largest trading partner of Thailand in South Asia. Thailand also congratulated Bangladesh on her graduation to developing country status in 2026. There is vast untapped potential for both countries to further their cooperation on trade, investment, and sustainable development, to which Thailand is ready to share the application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model with Bangladesh.
