On 30 October 2022, Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, visited Dhaka, Bangladesh, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Bangladesh organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.

On this occasion, the Deputy Permanent Secretary paid a courtesy call on Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh. Both sides exchanged views on the global political and economic situation and agreed to promote economic cooperation to take advantage of trade and investment opportunities.

Subsequently, the Deputy Permanent Secretary paid a courtesy call on Dr. Abulkalam Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. Both sides welcomed the development of bilateral relations based on mutual understanding and emphasized the importance of exchange of support in various international frameworks. Moreover, the Bangladeshi side sought further cooperation with Thailand to develop its agro-manufacturing and tourism sectors.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary and the Foreign Secretary also presided over the launching ceremony of the postal stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Bangladesh and the launch of an e-Book on the history of Thailand - Bangladesh relations which would help promote, publicize and strengthen bilateral relations at all levels.

Thailand and Bangladesh formally established diplomatic relations on 5 October 1972 and have continuously developed bilateral relations, especially in development cooperation. As good friends and with a positive attitude towards Thailand, Bangladesh stressed the importance of the relations with Thailand as a country with a leading role in the region. Given Bangladesh’s potential and economic, Thailand is presented with opportunities to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors which would benefit the future development of both countries.
