On 1 – 2 November 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Senator the Honourable Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, on the Official Visit to Thailand, as Guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This visit reaffirmed the close and longstanding friendship between Thailand and Australia under the Strategic Partnership and provided a positive opportunity to discuss means and ways of strengthening relations and advancing practical and mutually beneficial cooperation at both bilateral and regional levels in light of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022.

On 1 November 2022, DPM/FM Don held a bilateral meeting and hosted a dinner in honour of Foreign Minister Penny Wong and the delegation. During the foreign minister's talks, both sides discussed ways to further enhance cooperation under the Joint Plan of Action to Implement the Thailand-Australia Strategic Partnership and promote regional cooperation through the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Mekong sub-region, and APEC as well as exchanged views on regional development, including the situations in Ukraine and Myanmar.

On this occasion, both sides signed the Joint Plan of Action to Implement the Thailand-Australia Strategic Partnership 2022-2025 which is a four-year plan covering multi-dimensional areas of cooperation, namely, (1) political and military cooperation and non-traditional security including anti-transnational crimes, narcotics, and trafficking in person as well as cyber security (2) economic cooperation, including BCG economy and digital economy as well as launching of Strategic Economic Cooperation Arrangement, (3) sectoral cooperation, including public health, agriculture, education, science, technology and research, energy, climate change, and environment, disaster management, protection of the rights and equality of women, child, and people with disabilities, and (4) people-to-people links. The Joint Plan of Action will be instrumental in assisting both countries in achieving post-pandemic recovery and sustainable long-term growth as well as enhancing cooperation in ASEAN-Australia, Mekong sub-regional and multilateral frameworks.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Penny Wong paid a courtesy call on H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister of Thailand and H.E. General Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister at the Government House on 2 November 2022. In addition, H.E. Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Justice of Thailand, and Foreign Minister Penny Wong signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Counter-Trafficking in Persons Center of Excellence, which will further strengthen cooperation and capacity-building efforts in anti-human trafficking.
