On 12 December 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, chaired a breakfast meeting with a group of Australian business executives and representatives from Australian investment promotion agencies at the Crown Sydney Hotel in Sydney during his official visit to Australia from 10 - 12 December 2024. Miss Chayika Wongnapachant, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was also in attendance.
The participants included representatives from 8 leading Australian companies that have investments or are interested in investing or expanding their businesses in Thailand in various sectors, including logistics, machinery manufacturing, animal feed and nutrition, healthcare and data centre development.
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Thailand's readiness to welcome foreign investment, especially in key sectors such as Electric Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, clean energy, as well as food and agriculture. Moreover, the Minister also emphasised Thailand’s priority in boosting economic growth through the continuation of the Proactive Economic Diplomacy. Thailand’s potentials in business and investment were also highlighted. Firstly, Thailand is known for its strategic location which could link Australia’s products and business with other regions of the world through Landbridge and other international groupings such as BIMSTEC. Secondly, Thailand has the potential to collaborate with Australian private sectors all through its business stream, including upstream (joint-research and development), mid-stream (manufacturing), and downstream (distribution and market network).
Australian business sector also commended Thailand’s policy to increase trade opportunities and connectivity with emerging economies such as member countries of BRICS, which reflects Thailand’s economic potential.
