ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON THE EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN

1. ASEAN is saddened by the loss of lives and extensive damage to properties caused by the earthquake in Ishikawa prefecture and other prefectures in central Japan on 1 January 2024.

2. ASEAN expresses its heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Government and people of Japan, especially the families and communities affected by the earthquake and its impact.

3. ASEAN affirms its solidarity with the Government and people of Japan in this difficult time and stands ready to extend its assistance to the relief efforts. ASEAN is confident that Japan will overcome and recover swiftly from the impact of this natural disaster.
