On 9 May 2024, Mr. Bolbongse Vangphaen, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, led the Thai delegation at the 16th Coordinating Conference for the ASEAN Political-Security Community (ASCCO) held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The conference was chaired by Dato’ Astanah Abdul Aziz, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community, and attended by representatives from ASEAN Member States, heads of APSC Sectoral Bodies and entities associated with APSC.

The meeting reviewed progress in implementing the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Blueprint 2025. Notably, 99% of the action lines have already been addressed ahead of the Blueprint’s completion in 2025, and Thailand has played active role particularly in legal cooperation and the development of ASEAN Border Management Cooperation Roadmap under the ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (DGICM). The meeting also noted the progress made by Timor-Leste's in preparation for ASEAN membership. Additionally, the meeting exchanged views on regional political and security matters as inputs for the development of ASEAN Vision 2045 and related Strategic Plan under APSC. Thailand emphasised the importance of applying lessons learned from implementing the APSC Blueprint 2025, especially in identifying competent cross-pillar mechanisms to enhance implementation effectiveness.

ASCCO serves as a platform for coordinating various sectoral bodies under ASEAN Political-Security pillar, particularly in exchanging information, best practices, and lessons learned from implementing the APSC Blueprint 2025 to advance political and security cooperation within ASEAN.
